History

Prince Rupert Boarding Lodge is the boarding wing of Prince Rupert School, Rinteln. Originally built in 1974 and used as accommodation for teaching staff, the sleeping quarters are of a very high standard and compare favourably with the best boarding schools in the UK. The Lodge was opened in September 1982 to provide boarding accommodation for students of secondary school age, who cannot travel in each day. The Lodge is on the school site behind the main premises and enjoys magnificent views over the Weser valley and the town of Rinteln.

There are modern showers: washing and toilet facilities on every floor and all rooms have sufficient storage space.   There is a main social room with TV where drinks and snacks can be made.  There are two kitchens on the corridors, one in the boys area and one in the girls area. These have microwaves, kettles, TV, toasters and irons to encourage boarders to care for themselves, with a little guidance from someone who cares about their wellbeing. Meals are prepared in the main school kitchens and are served in the main dining room alongside staff. There is always a choice, with a vegetarian alternative, plus an extensive range of salads at lunchtime. Breakfast includes the choice of Continental or Full English breakfast on alternate day.

To add sparkle and community spirit to life in the lodge special events are often laid on, these include visits to the cinema, swimming pools and concerts. A wide range of equipment for indoor and outdoor games, table-tennis, pool, football etc. is also readily available. Specific activities are also organised and supervised by members of staff.

Life in the lodge is not all fast and furious, prep time (1hour per night) is part of the daily routine which is compulsory for all those within the lodge, and, for those who wish to have some quiet time the library is always available.

The welfare of the boarders is paramount. With this in mind the lodge staff carefully look at providing structured study and leisure time to ensure that those living away from home feel comfortable and secure in a caring and stimulating environment and that social development is encouraged in a positive manner.
