SCE Schools

Examinations

Formal internal assessment is made of students’ performances at the end of Year 9 (Key Stage 3) through Teacher Assessment. Formal external assessment is made of students’ performances at the end of Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 through GCSE, GNVQ, BTEC and A Level.

The school operates a system of inclusion for examination entrance. If a student completes an examination course, including the required course work then entry to the examination is assured. Assessment in the external examinations is also made in a number of ways and can be through continuous assessment of coursework as well as through formal written, oral and practical examinations.  The requirements of external examinations vary from subject to subject and even from year to year. Details are published in the Year 9 options and sixth form booklets.

The school aims to involve parents and students in the assessment process. If at any time you have any queries regarding assessment or reporting then please contact the school's Cover & Data Manager.
